Martin Bell – Man In A White Suit

martin bell the man in the white suit
Martin Bell is probably the best known Englishman to favour wearing a white suit.
Martin has had a long and varied career, initially as a journalist and war correspondent for the BBC – and laterly as a Independent MP for Tatton. Martin has also written a book entitled “An Accidental MP”.
Whatever Martin has acheived in life, he will always be best known as the man in the white suit!
So why do some men like to wear a white suit:
- Is it because of arrogance that gives the wearer a complacent feeling.
- Is it to simply make a statement – hey look at me!
- White suits are a matter of individual taste and personal style.
- Maybe not everybody has the personality to wear white.
- Is it attention seeking – a white suit will always draw attention.
- Trying to portray oneself as a saviour – a white knight.
- Mark twain was another well known white suit wearer. He said in 1906 that a group of men in black looked like a flock of crows.
- Do they make the wearer more educated, or more of a certain class.
- Give the wearer a feeling of early Roxy Music.
- A sense of wellbeing and at home with oneself.
- Whatever a white suit wearer gets from his garment, one thing is certain he will not go through the day being unnoticed.
- Perhaps that is just what we all look for – to make a statement in our humdrum lives.
