Stains the bane of our lives. How many of us have those awful memories of days, or evenings, that have been spoilt by unsightly food,or drink stains. I have listed a few possible remedies to remove the little blighters.
The first thing is to always read the makers clothing care label, to make sure you do not apply an ill-advised product or wash it in a way that could damage it. Ironing or drying may set the stain permantly so it is vital to read the washing instructions.
Here”s a few tips on how to remove common stains using products that you probably already have at home.
- Red Wine, pour salt onto the stain if its still fresh,do not rub in. Rinse it off with cold water, after two minutes. Another idea is to pour white wine on it to keep it from setting. I have also been told that if you sprinkle with corn flour when stain is wet, allow to dry, brush it then dab of with a cloth soaked in milk.Other remedies include one of the greatest cleaners of all time vinegar. Pour the vinegar onto a damp cloth and blot the stain until the wine is completely lifted. If that does not work you can pour the vinegar directly onto the stain to saturate before blotting.Once the stain is removed, blot with a damp cloth. Your clothes may smell a bit but this will be removed when cleaned as per makers instructions.
- Lipstick this one could be for the chaps. Have you ever got lucky and been in a heavy snogging session, then Lipstick could be a problem, not on your lips, on your clothes. You can dab the stain, either by rubbing alcohol, ammonia, hairspray. Then just rinse of with cold water.
- Beer stains, if on silk, remove the stain by blotting with a cloth soaked in a mix of equal parts of water and methylated spirt.
- Coffee stains. Rub natural soap on the stain to wet it. You then use a mix of luke warm water mixed with egg yolk. Let it react and then rinse again with lukewarm water. On silk and wool, water mixed with surgical spirit may also give good results.
- Grass stain, we have all been there, all dressed up, at a outside function. Beautiful day, loads of beer, wine, shampoo, hot sun, next thing we, we have all done it, we are down on the grass. Grass stains are probably one of the worst to remove. When you get home with your thick head, gently rub in stain remover, and leave it for five minutes. Using bleach and detergent, wash normally in hot water. Another solution is to sponge some ethanol or methanol on the stain, then remove it with warm soapy, finally to mix one part glycerin with two parts water and cover the stain with it until it softens. Personally i have found if you want to keep your clothes clean, do not get into situations that involve falling over.
- Ink in pockets. Suits are built with pockets to put things in, pockets are perfect for holding pens. Sometimes these pens leak, it does not matter whether the ink is black or blue. We all know that whatever colour, the mark spreads out to make a nice big stain, this idea might work. Put on a pair of plastic gloves. the ink will dye your skin when you are working to get it of your suit.Spray hairspray liberally on the stain, leave for sixty seconds. Wet a white cloth and wring it out. Don”t use a colored cloth as it could transfer its own dye to your suit. Dab up the ink with the white cloth, repeat until you have completely removed the stain. Again you must always read makers wash labels, and make sure you have it professionally cleaned to remove the hairspray smell from your clothes.
- Blood. If the stain is fresh, soak the garment in cold water with a sprinkle of ammonia for twenty minutes. If the stain has already set, dampen it with warm water, then apply some unseasoned “this is important” meat tenderizer, making a paste over the stain. Cover this with a paper towel and make sure it stays moist. The next day, rinse off the paste with water mixed with a little bit of ammonia and wash normally.
All the above are tips that may help you remove stubborn stains, get to the stain soon. Work it slowly, be prepared to work it several times, and always remember to dab don”t rub. Preferably with cold water. Also, brush from the center of the stain out ward to avoid forming a circle on the fabric. First and foremost though, is to always, always, read the makers washing instructions, or else it cold be a-kin to putting diesel in a petrol car.
Guys its one of the biggest nights of your High School days, what to wear to the prom. Here are a few things to think about, are you dressing to please your self, or your girl if you have been lucky enough, to take one.
- First and foremost, the boy has to worry about asking a girl out. Unless he has a girlfriend he should be very careful what to wear, and how to look.
- If you do not have a girlfriend, that you know and she knows you, you must give some time to get to understand the girl you ask, then discuss what she likes a guy to look like, you know it makes sense they are always right.
- Before the prom night it is imperative to know, the dress code. The last thing a guy wants to do is turn up in a inappropriate prom suit, although recently dress code is far more relaxed, and formal dress for guys is not nearly as complicated as it is for girls.
- Stick to your signature look, if you do not normally wear a suit, it does not mean you have to change your style, to let your normal self shine through.Things to think about when considering your out fit, colour, is it a good fit, does it suit me, do i feel good, if those tick the boxes you will have a good night.
- You now have the girl, the venue, the dress code, so what to wear, is it a Tuxedo affair, black, or white tie, formal suit, if you do not have one, or do I hire or buy.
- Hiring is the normal way to get a suit if you do not have one,if it is going to be the only time you will want the suit, then maybe that is the way to go. Hiring normally gives you the choice of seeing the goods, trying them on making sure they fit, and returning when the prom is over.
- A further option is buying through the internet, although you do not get to see, or try the goods on in the shop. You may think this is a downside against the hiring process, but if you go to a reputable supplier on the net it can be a simple process.
- Buying your suit does have its advantages, it is so simple to order, we all know our suit size, if not look at the label on the one you are wearing If you order your suit and by some chance it does not fit, it will be exchanged for a different size, or a full money refund. The major benefit though is that if you buy, you still have the suit to wear time and time again.
- Do not be afraid to be trendy, and feel you have to go looking like everyone else, you are only young once. Do though make sure you have scrubbed up for the event. A splash of colour with a tie, or a really over the top pair of socks. Have your hair trimmed the week before, a sprinkle of your favorite after shave, smooth cufflinks, and give those shoes a polish, no scuffs on the heels.
Thats it take a look in the mirror, do you like what you see, of course you do, these few hints are made for you to look and feel like a king, its your one and only prom enjoy.
Come the weekend. You get ready meet up with all your friends and do the same, old tired thing you did last weekend, and the weekend before that. It all gets a bit boring after a while.
Why not try to spice up your social scene, by hosting a black and white theme party, theme parties are a great way to get friends together and do something really different. Plus they are not only lots of fun to attend, but also to plan.
- Invitations. It is so simple to e-mail all your friends, and it is good idea to spend time making your invite special. This gives you the opportunity to add extra information as to what to wear , what to bring, time to arrive, time the party ends.
- Decorations. Try to use black&white for all the party decorations to keep the theme going. Maybe run an old Black&White movie when your guests arrive. To enhance the ambiance use black candles, place them on a mirror and sprinkle table confetti on the mirror just magic. Black&White balloons can be placed almost anywhere, and are easy and cheap to purchase, streamers also work well.
- Tableware. Try using a black table cloth, with white plates, cups and saucers, all china will set of the cloth, white napkins, large white trays to serve the food.
- Food. Not all the food can be white it will depend what sort of meal you are serving. You will need to use your imagination, white bread, rice, white soups, white fish, chicken potatoes lots of choice, for sweet vanilla ice cream, and white chocolate with white coffee. You could use any meat in a black bean sauce, dark rye bread, and dark chocolate and black coffee to finish.
- Drink. To reflect the theme of the party is a great idea. Since we are working with black&white, you need to use your imagination, and create drinks with a black& white theme Chocolate martinis, white and black Russians, your call experiment it could be fun, but do not get to tipsy before the guests arrive.
- Attire Men. This is the make or break party piece. You will have asked your guests on the invitation what to wear. For both men and women it must be black and white without exception. Depending wether its casual or more formal. If its to be more formal than casual, the men will need to wear a Jacket. The best match of course is a white Jacket and black trousers, black shirt, and if you have them white shoes, would really set of the black&white theme.
- Attire Women. Wow the sky’s the limit, black skirt, white top, black stockings, white shoes, that little black dress with a white belt, the white and black variations are end less.
- Music. You will again have to use your imagination, and keep in the theme of black&white, Michael Jackson’s” Black or White” AC/DC”s “Back in Black” Billy Idol”s “White Wedding” and Paul McCartney”s “Ebony and Ivory” “Elvis Costello “Black&White World” and if its Xmas time the best of all the age old classic “White Christmas”

With this in mind make sure if you are organizing to give it your best shot, no half measures full on and you will be the talk of the town.
When we think of colours I suspect it is the one that is your favourite you think of first. Is it red, blue, yellow, green? We all have different opinions. Have you ever given any thought, to the most universally used colour, interestingly its White. Perhaps that is something of a surprise, but after some research I have been richly rewarded by the multitude of information that the colour white embraces.

- We have all heard the expression” that’s a white elephant” its origin came from Thailand where the albino variety is sacred. It was said that the night before the Buddha’s birth, his mother had a dream of a white elephant carrying a lotus flower. From that time on the white elephant has been worshipped, as a symbol of fertility and greatness, Because of their status they were never used for work or ridden to war like most other elephants. As these elephants were not productive the legend is, that they were used to punish someone who had offended the king. The king would give them a white elephant, they cost a fortune to keep, and in some cases it caused such a drain financially, that it could ruin the family that were given the gift. Even now the term” white elephant” is often used to describe a business venture or investment, that cost’s far more than it delivers, yet is impossible to sell or dispose of.

It was at one time the most played song in public places in the UK. The lyrics were written by Keith Reid, who was at a party, when he overheard someone say to a woman,”you”ve turned a whiter shade of pale”, and the phrase stuck in his mind, and gave a starting point for the song.” White Christmas sung by ”Bing Crosby and Rosemary Clooney is perhaps one of the best known and loved songs. It conjures up the Xmas spirit of good cheer, and glowing fires, and all is well with the world, George Clooney is also Rosemary’s nephew.
- Place names with White. I expect if we were asked to name one place or building, it would be the White House in Washington DC. The home of the President of the United States of America. For anyone who has visited there, it truly is an amazing experience. The house its self stands out on the Green Lawns and is as white as white could be. The thousands of motorists that commute daily into London on the A40 will pass an area now called the White City, Up until 1908 it was farmland; in 1908 the Franco-British Exhibition was built-in this period it was known as the Great White City. Due to the white marble cladding used on the exhibition pavilions, hence gave its name to this part of Shepards Bush. The White City Stadium was built for the Olympics in 1908, it was later turned into a greyhound racing track, and used for short periods by Queens Park Rangers football club. The stadium was demolished in 1985 to make way for the BBC White City building. The 1908 Olympics are commemorated with a list of athletes inscribed on the side of the building, and the athletics finish line is marked in the paving outside the building.

Unfortunately they were so realistic that they had to be withdrawn from sale because kids were eating them, and replaced with non-food scents. White teas are the most delicate of all teas. The colour of white is a many splendid thing and ranges from warm incandescent to a cooler florescent. If time was a colour it would be a taste full off-white. When all colours combine in pure light energy the resulting colour is white, this is the physics of colour, white the most used colour in the world.
What is it about the colour White?
Why is it that the colour white makes a immediate impression on our mind or subconscious more than any other colour, is it the correlation regarding people, how they dress, or animals we have owned or loved ,all of us has an attraction to white.
- 1 Animals may be it’s the Polar Bear the epitome of the Arctic and the vast expanse of White Snow this amazing bear that roams the whiteness in all its glory, king of the Arctic, or it could be the snowy owl, white bits on the Panda without white no Panda.
- Desert Orchid was the most famous National Hunt racehorse ever, in his career he won over 34 races, including in front of 58,000 people the Blue Riband of jump racing the Cheltenham Gold Cup, and four King George , which are traditionally held on Boxing Day at Kempton Park. He also amassed over £650.000 in prize money, and when he retired he raised thousands of pounds for charity. So other than his undoubted talent as an equine athlete why was he so popular? Simply he was a horse as white as the driven snow.
- White again Columbo the shuffling cigar smoking detective in the TV series that carry’s his name, how do we see him inquisitive, awkward, persistant or in a old scruffy white suit or desheveld macintosh, I think it’s the suit and mackintosh.
- Advertisements recent ones that spring to mind George Clooney advertising Omega watches, and the great ad for Stella Artois when the guy gets involved with the girl in the car, him in the van the chickens, he gets the girl loses the girl, but he ends up with the car and a glass of Stella, looking a million dollars in a White Suit classic.
- Drink have you ever thought what might attract us to the black stuff is it the white top, is it the bubbles in a glass of champange, whatever it is its white
- Thinking about whiteness in food, and drink, milk, white bread, white rice, potatoes, vanilla ice cream, and white chocolate – all have something in common white.
- Paint what is the attraction with white I would hazard a guess that over 90% of all households in the world, have a white wall, doors, white picket fence, white carpets, there will be white somewhere.
- Things we handle every day newspapers, copy paper, toilet paper, paper cups, tea cups, egg cups, and the ultimate for some White wine, and for Golf fanatics white balls.
- White in religion, white in wedding dresses, white in chefs outfits, white in cricket, white at Wimbeldon, white in Judo Suits, white teeth, bed sheets, crisp white shirts, and wonderful white suits at sporting and social occasions.
- White if we think about it surrounds us all in our daily lives, maybe more than any other colour, it permeates all aspects of night and day, is it because it is neutral, calming, healing, thought provoking or just a colour that needs no explanation?
White is synonymous with a variety of sports that predominately wear white.
- Tennis players have to wear white clothes at Wimbledon perhaps the best known lawn tennis tournament in the world.
- Wimbledon was founded in 1868 as the All England Croquet Club and in 1875 Lawn Tennis was introduced and other than a few changes the rules drawn up then have lasted to the current day.
- Small piece of trivia the then lawns were laid out in such a way that the principle court was in the middle with all the others courts around it hence The Centre Court.
- In 1922 Wimbledon moved from Worple Road to its present site in Church Road, and has survived many ups and downs, to become the most prestige’s tennis tournament in the world.
- Well known English players have included Fred Perry the last English player to win the competition, and everybody’s favourite Tim Henman much loved but could never quite bring home the bacon.
- Someone who could bring home the bacon is Roger Federer who won his first junior title in 1998,and has gone on to win more Championships at Wimbledon than any other player, his sporting hero’s growing up were Boris Becker, and favourite player was Pistol Pete Sampras.
- What else makes Roger stand out from the crowd, he really sartorially personifies Mr Cool who can but sits back and admire how he looks in his White Jacket that he wears when he collects the Wimbledon trophy, he is the best and he looks the best.
- Also maybe a little known fact regarding Roger is that he is very generous with his time and money, and has set up the Roger Federer Foundation which supports disadvantaged children in South Africa. Where in 2005 he made a surprise visit to townships in Port Elizabeth, were on his behalf his parents opened a multipurpose sports complex consisting of two tennis courts a basketball court netball and football pitch, plus many other fundraising and charity able projects.
- Roger has also won the overseas BBC sports personality of the Year in 2006-07, he is married to Mirka Vavinec a former player, and has twin daughters, he speaks English, Swiss, French and Swedish – with no end to his talents, also another piece of trivia had a Stamp released in 2007 in his birthplace of Basel.
- In my opinion Tennis players look much smarter in all White and other venues have allowed players to wear whatever they like, but Wimbledon and Roger will always be my Venus in all White.
White uniforms in team sports, the most well known would be the English game of Cricket, played by twenty two players eleven on each side, it’s a game that is to some beyond comprehension. In a test match the game is set to last for five days and at the end there still may be no result, so you can see why some people find it hard to understand.
- Cricketers in test matches wear cricket whites, these are also known as flannels, originally flannels were exclusively white or cream, today though in the shortened one-day game players wear multi coloured kit.
- Why then a white uniform? Is it so either side are able to see the red ball, against white clothes, or is it that white reflects the sun and the heat during the summer months, whatever the reason, to see twenty two men or women run out onto a green field on a summers day is a sight to behold.
- Football the most watched, played, and popular sport on the planet, one of the biggest clubs Real Madrid wear an all white strip, Real were formed in 1902 and are reported to have 228 million supporters worldwide.
- Real Madrid’s home ground is called the Santiago Bernabau and used to hold 120,000 fans but under new UAFA rules it now only houses 80,400.
- Real Madrid holds many records in competitions and have won more European Cups than any other club, of course now the European Cup is better known as the Champions League.
- Real Madrid have also had many of the best players that have laced up a pair of boots, they include, Di Stefano who arguably could be included as one of the best players ever, Frenc Puskas, Zidane Zidane, and of course at the moment they have just paid a world record for Ronaldo who could turn out to be the best yet.
- Atletico Madrid are there local rivals, but the games between Real and Barcelona are perceived to be a matter of life and death, not just because of rivalry but also language.
- Also small piece of trivia, Real Madrid are one of the few clubs of which the members are the owners.
- Other English football teams that have worn all white strips have included, Bolton Wanderers 1969-1971,Leeds United 1961-1976,Totenham Hotspurs 1985-1987 sponsor Holsten, and 2007-2008,Derby County 1965-1966.
- Rugby Union the English Rugby teams strip was entirely white from 1871-1990,more trivia the game of rugby was developed at Rugby school hence the name, and all teams used to wear white because it could be boiled washed to keep it clean.
- In summary, white has and is one of the most popular colours for team sports, originally because it was easy to keep them clean, with the advent of non running man made materials other colours have become more readily available but white has stood the test of time and is still a colour in demand.
For the past year I have been researching the colour white, in clothing, foods, drinks, buildings, and all manner of interesting facts, and have come across some White Trivia which i would like to share.

- White Cliffs Of Dover in the UK we have two famous sites with White Cliffs. White Cliffs of Dover are perhaps the most well known, before air travel, if you were traveling from our to the UK, its likely that the first and last sight you would see is the White Cliffs of Dover During the second World war Vera Lynn sang the song “There will be Blue Birds over The White Cliffs of Dover” which became the tune that enabled the Brits to keep their chins up.
I have only scratched the surface of trvial facts about the colour white, it has all been so very interesting, researching the history of all the above subjects. I am in danger of becoming the pub bore with “did you know”.it may sound a cliche but i never realized how apparent White affects all our lives on a daily bases, if you give some thought to what is White in your day you will be very surprised.

A white suit or white clothing is a garment that we have become used to over the years, but where and when to wear, and feel comfortable in a white suit.
- Sporting occasions in the summer months they are a must for the white suit. Think of Glorious Goodwood and the rolling downs with views over the solent, the horses thundering down the course, and the green lawns full of race goers with their champagne and pims. Beautiful women dressed in expensive flowing dresses, lounging around tables overflowing with seafood and strawberry’s and cream. Where do us men fit in? In a fresh crisp white suit when we become centre stage.
- Enter centre stage the man with the summer sizzle, what does he wear to match his white suit. He probably will have to be wearing a tie, if in the members enclosure. So a white shirt with a nice deep colour tie, or if no tie a purple, lilac, stripe white looks really great. Shoes can be casual brown slip-ons or a smart pair of loafers. As the centre of attraction you will be surrounded by the most attractive men and women who will see you as the adventurer that you are.
- If you thought you looked cool at Goodwood part of the early season is Henley Regatta. Other than Royal Ascot, Henley for some is the pinnacle of the social season. Henley lasts a week for the rowing and then continues with a music festival into the following week. Men seem to go back to their school days and wear blazers of all descriptions and many end up looking like Billy Bunter.
- This again is where the white suit comes into its own, either at the rowing, maybe crawling the bars (that contain some of the most elegant women on the planet) or just watching the world go by with your pint knowing you are the coolest man in town.
- Royal Ascot needs no introduction. It is the highlight of the year in horse racing terms and the glamour stakes. You will never see so many well dressed women all in one place anywhere in the world! Age does not matter they all make the best of what they have got and some have it all and spend a fortune showing it. So unless you are in the Royal Enclosure where you need to wear a morning suit, Ascot is the ideal place to wear a white suit.As most people dress up for Royal Ascot and men traditionally wear a suit, the white suit wearer will stand out from the crowd. This again will help you send the right signals to the opposite sex. We are all aware what happens when the signal is reciprocated, sparks fly and a good day is had by one and all.
- Polo perhaps is the most expensive sport there is. Played by millionaire playboys, Arab Sheiks and the most glamorous advertising in the sporting agenda- Cartier watches and Sunseeker speedboats. If it’s the top of the market it’s at the Polo. Who looks the coolest in the middle of the second chucker – the man in the white suit, probably wearing a black shirt and brown loafers looking a million dollars.
- Smart but a little more refined is the Glyndebourne season conjuring up visions of country houses, sumptuous picnics, popping champagne corks, ladies in their finery and the men suited. In this more relaxed manner far removed from the hustle and bustle of the horse racing and rowing scene, this is where the white suit comes into its own, maybe with a nice pink shirt or dare I say a cravat, casual shoes and maybe a pair of Paul Smith socks.
- From refined to the sedate, the ultimate cricket venue in the world is Lords Cricket Ground in north London. Some say the home of cricket, graced by the likes of Don Bradman, WC Grace, Viv Richards and Sir Ian Botham. Lords is also the home of the MCC – Middlesex Cricket Club. To join the MCC there is a waiting list that will take you at least 5 years to become a member. We have to picture this extraordinary cricket ground with its large imposing stands, a press box that looks like a thin portable radio, bathed in sunshine, the members stand packed to the gunnels, with men in MCC ties and white suits as smart as the day they we bought.
I have tried to give an idea of where and when and what to wear with a white suit. In my opinion there are a multitude of reasons for why and when, but there are no rules. Winter or summer, white suits are clean, simple, exciting, daring, brave. The ultimate garment to make you stand out from the crowd and highlight you are the man!
